Mad At The World’s first release attracted attention as a synth centered “New Wave” sonic offering. Centered on younger brother Randy’s sampling it skirted under the mainstream, perhaps most marginalized them as being plain “weird”. However, the more rock guitar oriented Flowers In the Rain (1988) confirmed MATW as head weirdos. Dark but with a surprisingly strong and direct message of hope, one listen to Randy Rose’ relentless synth riff and Roger’s brooding sardonic assertion and admonition that “Faith Is A Perfect Road”: any teenager, rock fan, or youth group leader would accept any Sunday school lesson from the Angry At The Earth clan. Both the first album and especially ‘Flowers are portraits of the 80’s to be displayed in a true fan’s collection.
